In October 2024, the NDIA introduced some rule changes, and these changes include updated lists which say what can and cannot be funded by the NDIS.

Key update

As of October 3, meals from fast-food services, takeaway food, or food delivery platforms (such as Uber Eats, Door Dash, Menulog) are no longer considered ‘NDIS supports’ and cannot be claimed using NDIS funds.

If you want use food and meal preparation

To claim food and meal preparation through your NDIS plan, make sure that:

  • If food and meal preparation is not included in your NDIS plan, provide supporting information to justify why this support is reasonable and necessary.
  • Use a meal delivery platform where the food and ingredient costs are separately identified from the meal preparation and delivery costs. Examples include Able Foods and Lite’n’Easy who itemise the different parts of the service.

To check whether a support is claimable from your plan, contact a My NDIS Contact or the NDIA contact centre.
